Description: A partnership between the clinician and the person who has asthma (and the caregiver, for children) is required for effective asthma management. When providers, patients and caregivers work together, patients can better learn self-management skills. Self-management education provided at multiple points of care improves outcomes. This monograph offers strategies for enhanced communication with families of asthma patients.

Learning Objectives: Upon completion, participants should be able to:
1) Develop skills in cultural competence and patient-centered care 
2) Apply best practices for delivering key asthma education messages at each patient visit

Learning Assessment: There will be a posttest for this activity with a minimum performance requirement of 4 out of 5 correct answers.

Estimated time to complete activity: 0.50 hour

Residents will earn a certificate of completion. Physicians will earn CME credit.
