EFM Fundamentals in Practice (4 hour Video)

Hours: 1.00

Best suited for: Newly practicing obstetricians and family practice physicians, novice midwives, obstetric nurse practitioners, residents, and other interested healthcare providers who require EFM skills.

Upon completion, participants should be able to
1) Obtain EFM data (UC and FHR) with the appropriate device based on the clinical conditions
of the patient and her fetus.
2) Utilize NICHD terms, guidelines and the 3-Tier FHR Interpretation System during the
interpretation, categorization and management of EFM data.
3) Interpret FHR patterns for signs of improper oxygen exchange between a mother and her
fetus; apply interventions as necessary to maximize O2 delivery.
4) Manage and intervene for UC and FHR patterns that exhibit abnormal UC activity or signal
    fetal hypoxemia or acidemia.
5) Effectively communicate and document EFM data using NICHD terminology.
6) Implement proactive patient safety strategies during EFM; doing so will limit the need for
reactive risk management solutions and may avert a negative maternal, fetal, or neonatal
    outcome.
